Abstract

The Made by Society dance work departs from the phenomenon of insecurity felt by performers who feel insecure as a result of always adhering to the standards created by society. The Made by Society dance work is a contemporary dance work danced in pairs with an abstract type of social theme, which is collaborated with techniques and movement dynamics. In creating this work, the artist uses several methods from Alma M. Hawkins, namely field observation, exploration, improvisation , composition, and evaluation. This work is expressed symbolically by using a mask as a property that symbolizes the standard of beauty. The dance music used is made from computer technology combined with live music using musical instruments such as cello, bass guitar and triagel. This dance work is also reinforced by video art in the form of ridicule sentences which are responded to through the body as a medium to express the contents of the work. This dance work conveys a message about the importance of facing insecurity with courage and encourages the audience to find strength in their weaknesses.
