KARYA TARI BAKUREH GAMBARAN DARI PERJUANGAN IBU SEBAGAI SEORANG PEKERJA BURUH TANI

Abstract


The dance work “BAKUREH” is an artistic expression inspired by the real-life experiences of female farm laborers in the choreographer’s environment. The spirit and perseverance of mothers who work on other people’s land before continuing labor on their own fields became the primary source of inspiration in the creation of this work. Through direct observation and personal reflection, the choreographer responds to this social phenomenon in the form of a group choreography performed by five female dancers at the Boestanul Arifin Adam Auditorium, Indonesian Institute of the Arts Padangpanjang. The creative process involved three stages: exploration, improvisation, and evaluation. Based on A.M. Hawkins’ (1964) theory, “BAKUREH” serves as an appreciation of the efforts and struggles of mothers working as farm laborers to support their families. Additionally, aligned with Lois Ellfeldt’s (1977) view that the body is the primary medium for dancers to express feelings and life experiences, this work transforms the movements of farm laborers into artistic expression. “BAKUREH” is structured into three sections representing resilience, perseverance, and the emotional landscape of women workers. Beyond presenting the aesthetic beauty of movement, this work highlights social and humanistic values as a tribute to the significant role of women in agrarian life.
