Author Guidelines

1. AIM and SCOPE

Bercadik: Jurnal Pengkajian dan Penciptaan Seni is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes original research and scholarly works in the field of arts and creative practices.

The journal aims to provide a platform for the dissemination of knowledge, critical inquiry, and innovation in the arts, particularly within interdisciplinary and contemporary contexts.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to:

  • Performing Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre)
  • Visual Arts and Design
  • Film and Media Studies
  • Artistic Research and Practice-Based Research
  • Cultural Studies and Ethnography in the Arts
  • Creative Processes and Artistic Methodologies

Bercadik prioritizes manuscripts that demonstrate:

  • Clear research problems and academic rigor
  • Strong theoretical or conceptual frameworks
  • Methodological clarity, including practice-based approaches
  • Significant contributions to the development of arts scholarship at national and international levels

The journal encourages submissions that:

  • Integrate theory and artistic practice
  • Explore local cultural contexts within global discourse
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary and cross-cultural understanding in the arts

2. Types of Contributions

Authors may submit the following types of manuscripts:

  • Research Articles
    Original research with clear methodology and contribution (3000–5000 words)
  • Review Articles
    Critical synthesis of existing literature (3500–6000 words)
  • Practice-Based Research Articles
    Research grounded in artistic practice, supported by documentation and reflective analysis

 


3. Submission Checklist

Before submitting, authors should ensure that:

  • The manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere
  • The file is in Microsoft Word format
  • The text adheres to formatting guidelines
  • All references are complete and properly formatted
  • Figures and tables are properly labeled
  • ORCID IDs are provided (recommended)
  • An English abstract is included

4. Ethical Considerations

This journal follows the ethical standards set by Committee on Publication Ethics.

4.1 Authorship

All authors must have made significant contributions to:

  • Conceptualization
  • Research design
  • Analysis and interpretation
  • Manuscript preparation

4.2 Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that:

  • The work is original
  • Proper citations are provided

All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software.
Similarity index must not exceed 20%.

4.3 Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the work.

4.4 Research Involving Human or Animal Subjects

Authors must confirm:

  • Ethical approval has been obtained
  • Informed consent has been secured

5. Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted through:
Open Journal Systems

Authors are required to:

  1. Register/login
  2. Upload manuscript
  3. Complete metadata
  4. Confirm submission

6. Peer Review

This journal operates a double-blind peer review system.

  • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers
  • Review criteria include:
    • originality
    • methodological rigor
    • contribution to the field

Editorial decisions:

  • Accept
  • Minor revision
  • Major revision
  • Reject

Average review time: 2–6 weeks


7. Manuscript Preparation

7.1 Structure

Manuscripts should include:

  1. Title (max. 15 words)
  2. Author(s), affiliation, email
  3. Abstract (150–250 words)
  4. Keywords (3–5)
  5. Introduction
  6. Methods / Approach
  7. Results and Discussion
  8. Conclusion
  9. Acknowledgment (optional)
  10. References

7.2 Formatting

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Margins: 2.5 cm
  • Alignment: Justified

7.3 Figures and Tables

  • Must be clearly labeled
  • High-resolution images required
  • Figures related to artistic work are encouraged

8. References

  • Style: APA 7th Edition
  • Minimum 15 references
  • At least 80% from recent publications (last 10 years)
  • DOI must be included when available

9. Supplementary Material

Authors may submit:

  • Images (JPG/PNG)
  • Audio/video documentation
  • Artistic outputs

These materials should support the research findings.


10. Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to include a data availability statement, for example:

“The data supporting this study are available upon request.”


11. Article Processing Charges

  • Submission: Free
  • Publication fee: IDR 500,000

Payment is required after acceptance.
Waivers may be granted in special cases.


12. Copyright

Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication.

Articles are published under a Creative Commons license (CC BY or CC BY-SA).


13. Post-Acceptance

After acceptance:

  • Authors will receive proofs for correction
  • Final version will be published online
  • DOI will be assigned

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. An English abstract is included
