THE CREATION OF BREATH-IN DANCE FROM THE ACTIVITY OF PENSI SEEKER IN SINGKARAK LAKE

Abstract

Contemporary dance works contain a source of creative ideas that respond to activities in the community. One of these activities is how to respond to the activities of pensi seekers, a type of freshwater shellfish, in Singkarak Lake, West Sumatra. This work focused on the problem decompression (oxygen pressure disturbances) faced by pensi seekers while carrying out their activities in water. This dance performance is dramaturically connected through the relationship between material and all elements. The dance dramaturgy as a basic aspect in the the creation of a contemporary dance work needs to be understood as a way of approaching an idea and passing through the process of its realization. The activity of pensi seeker in Singkarak Lake in West Sumatra are manifested in the form of a contemporary dance entitled Breath In. In the process and presentation of the use of this approach there is an attempt to find the originality of the form and vocabulary of bodily movements based on observations about the activities of the pensi seeker.
